“A picture taken in Dali, industrial area, dust, the ghost, ghosts, exist in the pacific ocean's humid and salty air.”
In the 1950s, the "Taiwan Economic Miracle" began. The rising wages pushed businesses to seek cheaper labor abroad later in the 1990s, following the Southbound Policy, many moved to Southeast Asia and China. The shifts were tied to geopolitics, U.S. imperial interests, the fight against communism, and China's invasion.
Dali, an industrial area and my hometown, reflects these forces. I see the participation of the superpowers in the dust from the passing trucks on my dad’s wet clothe that was drying outdoors, also their roles in forming the local and personal landscapes.
