Rong-Ci Zhang (b.2000)
is a Taiwanese visual artist based in Helsinki, Finland since 2021. Her practice extends across the mediums of photography, text and installation. Central to her focus is the process of making sense of a “language” and its inherent in-betweenness.
How can arts bridge our understanding in relation to the material world we live in? Is it possible to construct a space where time, meaning, and ideologies collapse while at the same time growing into something new? In Rong-Ci’s work, she enjoys creating aesthetically pleasing images using discarded materials to create visual puzzles that challenges the audience’s frame of thinking. Her most recent practice explores what photographs fail to convey when they claim to represent reality. As a result, her practice extends beyond the visual to other sensory perceptions, such as smell and touch.
